The Gulf Cup, the Arab Cup and beyond

The Arabian Gulf Cup brings together the national teams of the Gulf states, Iraq and Yemen, and it has been played for more than half a century. Kuwait have won it more often than anyone. Its rivalries run deep, and for many Gulf fans it is a highlight of the football calendar.

The Arab Cup dates back to 1963. FIFA took it over in 2021 and staged it in Qatar, in stadiums built for the World Cup a year later. Clubs from the region have made their mark on bigger stages too, including Club World Cup finals, and Al Ahly of Cairo have won the CAF Champions League more often than any other club.

What the MENA quiz asks

This pack combines two sets of questions. One covers Gulf Cup finals and semi-finals from the first edition to 2025, plus the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup. The other follows the region's clubs and national teams on bigger stages: Club World Cup runs, African and Asian club finals, and World Cup milestones.

• Which match? Name the final from the score, the venue and a scorer.
• Guess the year: type the year of a Gulf Cup final or a club milestone.
• Guess the score: set the score of a final, after 90 minutes or after extra time.
• Who scored? Name the player behind a decisive goal in a regional or club final.
• Who advanced? Pick the team that went through, often after a shootout.

How the daily MENA quiz works

Every day at 00:00 UTC the MENA pack deals a new five, from easy questions to a hard one at the end. You have 25 seconds per question, and you can change your pick until you lock it. Each correct answer earns 200 points; there is no speed bonus, and total answer time breaks ties. Your first attempt goes on the MENA leaderboard for the day.
