Premier League quiz
Five questions a day on English football's top flight: title races, derbies and the goals people still replay.
Play today's Premier League quizThe Premier League story
The Premier League began in 1992, when the clubs of the old First Division broke away from the Football League, backed by a new television deal. It started with 22 clubs and has had 20 since 1995. Promotion and relegation still tie it to the divisions below, so every season has a fight at the bottom as well as at the top.
Manchester United set the pace in the early years and won 13 titles under Sir Alex Ferguson. Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool have all had their eras since, and Leicester City won the 2015–16 title a year after fighting relegation. Fans remember it for final days that settle everything at once, derbies that become thrashings and goals scored with the last kick.
What the Premier League quiz asks
The questions run from the mid-1990s to 2025. Expect title deciders and relegation battles, Manchester and north London derbies, record wins and five-goal hauls, some of the league's most replayed goals, and the North African and Arab players who became Premier League favourites.
- Which match? Work out the fixture from the score, the month and a clue.
- Guess the year: type the calendar year, or the year a season ended.
- Guess the score: set the full-time result of a famous game.
- Who scored? Name the player behind a hat-trick, a late winner or a famous goal.
- Who advanced? Here it can mean who won the title, who finished fourth or who stayed up.
How the daily Premier League quiz works
The Premier League five resets at 00:00 UTC each day, starting with two easy questions and ending with a hard one. You get 25 seconds a question, and you can change your mind as often as you like until you lock in. Each correct answer is worth 200 points. There is no speed bonus, so when scores are level, the faster total time ranks higher. Only your first attempt of the day goes on the pack's leaderboard. Practice and Memory lane are unranked, and Guess the goal adds one replayed goal a day, with its own table.
